Halloween Safety Tips

Posted By on October 19, 2022

Keep everyone, from trick-or-treaters to Muggles, safe during this delightfully haunted holiday.

Batman is coming, along with a princess or two, some witches and a group of ghosts—are you ready? To keep trick-or-treaters and all your ghoulish visitors safe, follow these seven Halloween tips for homeowners.

Keep Walkways Well-Lit
While darkness sets a spooky mood, make sure visitors can clearly see the pathway from the street to your door. Pay special attention to areas with steps. Luminaries, jack-o-lanterns and motion-activated lights can illuminate the way and help avoid accidents.

Make Steps Safer
There’s no predicting what kind of weather we’ll have for Halloween. Rain coupled with fallen leaves can create a hazard for those in costumes. Consider applying friction tape to make steps safer in the event of slippery weather conditions.

Reduce Fire Risk From Jack-o-Lanterns
Many of us cherish memories of carving pumpkins and enjoy passing this tradition on to the next generation. To reduce the risk of fire, replace candles with LED lights. Capes and other costume accessories won’t catch fire from battery-powered candles.

Make Sure Electrical Decorations Are Grounded
Make sure any outdoor decorations like lights and inflatables are plugged into outlets with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs).

Tighten Railings
While Peter Parker’s Spidey-Sense would warn him of the danger of a loose railing, your trick-or-treaters and their parents don’t have this superpower. Tighten stair and deck railings to avert accidents and injuries.

Move Cars To Improve Visibility
Park cars where they won’t hinder the visibility of little goblins running door-to-door or monsters motoring down your street. Also, make sure cars parked in the driveway don’t obstruct the sidewalk.

The Board and Management hopes everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!
